Lima to La Oroya railway at Chicla, Peru, 1890s

This standard gauge line, opened progressively in the second half of the 19th century, is one of the most impressive in the world from the aspects of altitude reached and civil engineering involved; it was opened to this place in 1878. At La Oroya the line divides into two branches.
