trams in Alexanderplatz, East Berlin, 1950s

The buildings in the first and third views date from the 1930s and survived WW2, while older buildings were destroyed.  The two buildings in the second view were built during the DDR era; the Haus des Lehrers (House of the Teacher) is the one in the centre.

The tram track layout as shown was initially retained by East Berlin authorities, but was changed in the late 1960s along with changes to the contents of Alexanderplatz.  See earlier post.
