début of the SNCF 060 DB-1, 1956

The cover of the issue of La Vie du Rail from 23 December 1956 shows this diesel's original livery.  The class of 20 diesel-electrics would be redesignated in 1962 the CC 65000; thus 060 DB-1 became CC65001 -- this loco was introduced into service the month following the pic, January 1957.

The 20, nicknamed sous-marins (submarines) were to handle all types of traffic on the routes Bordeaux - Nantes and La Rochelle - Poitiers. They lasted into the 1980s with the final withdrawal in 1988 and 2 are preserved: the one shown and 65005.

The prime movers were 2 x SACM MGO VSHR V12 of 680 kW output, weight in service was 112 tonnes and length 19.8 metres.
